The possibilities are endless: tabbed Mini Panels, carousel Mini Panels, Mini Panels in Mini Panels, etc.
Currently the Mini Panels module is the only module that takes advantage of Panels 2's Panel Style API, but any other Panels implementation could easily take advantage of it.
This pane contains custom content.
This third pane is again custom content. The previous pane contained a View. So in order to get a tabbed Mini Panel, you must put multiple panes in one panel - which means that most of the time, you'll want to use the Single Column layout for your tabbed Mini Panel. (If you'd pick the Three Column layout, you'd get tabs for each panel (a panel equals a column in this case), and thus you'd have to add multiple panes to each panel.)
